STEM Learning Specialist, Weingarten Center

Job Description

Duties:

  • Provide individual learning consultations in all aspects of STEM learning for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
  • Provide individual learning consultations for students in non-STEM courses, addressing strategies for time and project management, academic reading and writing, exam preparation, communication with peers and faculty, and utilizing campus resources.
  • Collaborate with faculty and campus partners in STEM-focused schools, programs, and majors to develop and facilitate relevant and engaging academic support workshops and other programs.
  • Plan and facilitate additional academic support workshops and programs that address learning strategies for students outside of STEM courses and majors.
  • Develop asynchronous resources that support STEM learning (e.g., videos, articles, handouts).
  • Collaborate with and support Weingarten Center staff as they work with students studying STEM subjects. Provide individual consultation and staff development as necessary.
  • Participate in the development, execution, and analysis of Weingarten Center assessments that demonstrate the impact of academic support services and programs on STEM learning.
  • Provide consultation for faculty and campus partners with respect to STEM learning support and serve on relevant University committees.
  • Communicate information concerning programs and services to members of the University community and colleagues at peer institutions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Science Education or STEM-related field required. Extensive knowledge in the areas of STEM learning, academic assessment and support, and higher education. A minimum of two years’ experience teaching and/or providing academic support for students in STEM learning contexts, preferably at the post-secondary level. Excellent organization, written, verbal, and electronic communication skills. Clear principles and vision for supporting equitable and accessible learning experiences for diverse student populations.
