Lauren Rudick, M.S.Ed., Director
Lauren Rudick is a native of the Philadelphia area. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English writing at the University of Pittsburgh and her master’s degree in higher education at Penn’s Graduate School of Education. She started doing crisis intervention work as a volunteer at a community crisis agency serving victims of relationship abuse and sexual violence. Lauren joined Student Intervention Services after completing her degree at Penn GSE in 2011 and became the director of the office in 2019. She is an Anti-Violence Advocate, a Wellness Partner, and a Safe Space ally. Before coming to Penn, Lauren began her career as a newspaper copy editor and designer.
Lindsay Adams, M.S.Ed., Associate Director for Crisis Intervention and Case Management
A Pennsylvania native, Lindsay grew up in northeastern Pennsylvania until moving to the Philadelphia area for college. Lindsay earned her bachelor’s degree in Media and Communication Studies and Applied Ethics from Ursinus College and her master’s degree in higher education from Penn’s Graduate School of Education (GSE). She is currently pursuing her doctorate in education from GSE. Lindsay has been with Student Intervention Services since 2014 and is an Anti-Violence Advocate, a Wellness Partner, and a Safe Space ally. She lives in Philadelphia with her fiancé, CJ, and two dogs, Zoey and Coco.
Taka Watanabe, M.A., Associate Director for Case Management and Outreach
Born and raised in Iwamizawa, Japan, Taka earned his bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Hosei University in Japan. Taka then went on to earn an additional bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University in Psychology and his master’s in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine from Boston University. Taka joined Student Intervention Services in 2017 and works extensively with Penn’s emergency funding program with SIS’ partners in Student Registration and Financial Services, Penn First Plus, and Alumni Relations. Taka loves Hawaii and looks forward to his vacations there.
Emily Hobbs Vanarelli, M.A., Administrative Coordinator
Emily Vanarelli was born and raised in Carrollton, GA. She earned a B.A. in Communication Studies from Vanderbilt University and an M.A. in Communication Arts and Sciences from Penn State University. Emily has lived in Pennsylvania for 6 years and in Philadelphia for 2 years. Emily joined the SIS team as their administrative coordinator in Fall 2018. Prior to coming to Penn, she taught undergraduate communication courses and worked at the learning center at Penn State University Park campus. Emily likes to explore Philadelphia, go to the beach, and hang out at home with her husband Evan and cat Howard (who is a girl!)
